2013 - 2014 Flu Shot Season

The 2013 - 2014 flu season begins this October and our first shipment of flu vaccines have alread arrived.. The Centers for Disease Control recommend that all people receive a flu vaccine as soon as it is available to prevent flu sickness for themselves and prevent the spread of flu to their families, friends, and colleagues. No appointment is necesary for a flu vaccine, so feel free to drop by during our regular business hours. If you cannot make it then, give us a call to see if Dr. Hetzel is available at a time convenient for you. Vaccination only takes a few minutes. For patients with insurance, the cost of the vaccine is fully covered by the insurer and no co-payment is charged. For patients without insurance, vaccination is available for a $20 charge.

Who should get vaccinated?

Everyone aged six months or older is recommended to receive an influenza vaccine this season. Children aged six months to eight years who have never had an influenza vaccine previously are slow to build immunity to influenza after their first vaccine. Therefore, these children should receive a second vaccine about four weeks after the first.

Do I need an appointment?

It only takes a few minutes to get your flu shot, so no appointment is needed. You might want to call ahead at 610-363-8260 to make sure we're in, especially outside of our usual business hours (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and 8:30 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday).

Dr. Hetzel's office is moving

Dr. Hetzel is moving his practice to a new medical office located at his home. The new address is 413 Longwood Drive, Exton, PA 19341:

The new location (B in the map below) is a 4 minute drive from the old location (A in the map below). For directions to the new office, click here.

With the advent of electronic medical records and other new healthcare technologies, we have found ways to streamline the practice of medicine and increase the efficiency of our office. As a community-focused, single doctor family medical practice, we feel that office space in a large office complex is no longer necessary for us nor ideal for our patients. By moving the medical practice to his home, Dr. Hetzel can offer a unique, community-friendly environment for his patients and greater availability outside of standard office hours. If you have questions about the new location, please give us a call at (610) 363-8260 or send us a message on our comments page.

Receive lab results online

Patients now have the option of receiving lab test results online. Quest Diagnostics, the provider of our electronic medical record system, Care360, has partnered with Google Health, Microsoft HealthVault, and keas to allow patients to receive labortory results in online personal health records. Follow these three steps to get started:
  1. Sign up for an online account with Quest Diagnostics here.
  2. Create an online personal health record with Google Health, Microsoft HealthVault, or keas.
  3. Next time you come in for a visit, ask Dr. Hetzel to provide you with your unique pin number. Take this pin to the website www.QuestDiagnostics.com/patient/account and follow the instructions to complete linking your Quest Diagnostic account with your personal health record. Next time Dr. Hetzel receives your laboratory results, they will be forwarded to your personal health record.
For more information, visit Quest's Very Important Patient page, or read through Quest's frequently asked questions. A good article on the future of personal health records appeared in a 2009 New England Journal of Medicine article.
